You should see what they get up to in Venice: (Picture 24 onwards) [link]
Ironically only now (well, pic 11 of Chapter 21) am I learning about composition & speech-bubble 'read' order.
I've gotten all this way on pure fun. Now it's pure fun within graphic novel 'boundaries'; but it will be worth the added effort I'm sure
I ran some feedback a few weeks ago when I was re-structuring & everyone wanted to keep the widescreen format.
I also asked about the close-ups on characters like in 'real' comics, but again the consensus was no, they prefer the cinematic look.
Tome of the Ancients is kinda unique in some ways in that it started out as a 'screenshot' novel, like game grabs with balloons.
Trouble is people are accustomed to the way it looks so I'm merely making subtle design & composition changes without a revolution.
I recognise that if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got; so I personally embrace changes & improvements.
And I do feel I can improve the current format while working within certain parameters. Comic book design elements can certainly be incorporated.
The main thrust is on pretty visuals & humour though & I reckon that's working well enough. (25-30 gigs traffic per month for the last 6 months!)
I've done more conventional 'portrait' comics too & they are easy to model & digest. But they are... ahem... not for deviantART if you know what I mean
